I’m Ingrid. I was born in Geiranger, I still live here, and I write this site — an independent comparison of the boat tours on the Geirangerfjord, from someone who has spent a working life on it.
Who I am
Geiranger has around 250 of us in winter, so growing up here meant growing up on the water — there is not much else the village faces. I spent my student summers as crew on the sightseeing boats, tying up at the Hurtigbåtkai and answering the same three questions from visitors several hundred times a season. These days I’m a licensed fjord guide, and I still like answering them, which is roughly how this site happened.
What this site is
It compares the five boat-based ways to see the fjord: the classic sightseeing cruise, the RIB safari, the waterfall tasting cruise, the full-day round trip from Ålesund and the private day trip. I am not a tour operator, not the ferry company and not the official destination site — I don’t sell tickets and I can’t change a booking. When you’re ready to book, the links go to GetYourGuide, a licensed reseller, and the booking happens there. Start with the tour overview or, if you want the background first, the fjord explained.
How I work
Everything factual on this site comes from the operators’ listings, the UNESCO and Norwegian government records on the World Heritage fjords, or from standing on the pier. Where a tour gets criticised in its reviews, I repeat the criticism — the review pages quote the sour notes along with the warm ones. And you will find no prices here: they move with season and demand, so the live booking widget shows today’s figure in your currency instead of my guess going stale.
How the site is funded
When you book through a link here, the site earns a small commission from GetYourGuide at no extra cost to you. That funds the work; it doesn’t decide the verdicts — the lowest-rated tour on this site is also its most famous one, and I say so. The affiliate disclosure has the full picture.
